Basic Drilling Practice
This course is designed to provide candidates with foundational knowledge essential for a career in the drilling industry. Participants will explore the Earth’s compositions and gain insights into various rig types, systems and components including hoisting, circulating, rotating, power, and well control systems, with comprehensive descriptions of all related equipment. The curriculum also covers vital mathematical skills necessary for drilling operations, including units and calculations for many applications such as Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) measurements and design, capacities, pump output, annular velocity, buoyancy factors, formation and hydrostatic pressures and it’s changes due to flow rate and mud density as well as Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD). Additionally, the course addresses Bottom Hole Pressure variations due to different operations and introduces fundamental drilling, tripping, and well control practices, equipping participants with the skills required for junior positions in the field.
